The Volunteers in Public Safety (VIPS) are your friends, neighbors, and fellow Sausalitans. The VIPS program is a cooperative effort between the police department, the fire department and the members of the community. Every member of the Volunteers in Public Safety (VIPS) is a resident of Sausalito who has been screened by the Police Department VIPS are also graduates of the Sausalito Police Department Citizen's Police Academy If you are interested in becoming a member of the VIPS, you will need to graduate from the Citizen's Police Academy The academy is designed to give citizens the opportunity to learn about departmental operations and get to know officers on a personal level. The VIPS focus on assisting with public safety concerns and quality of life issues throughout Sausalito. Consider joining us in giving back to your community. VIPS members are committed to assisting the Sausalito Police Department and Southern Marin Fire Department in their goals of:
Enhancing community safety
Protecting life and property
Reducing the impact of crime
Working with the community
Our VIPS help resolve problems in our community using every available resource, including organizational partnerships, with the goal of long-term solutions.
We assist in many public events, parades, and as requested by the Sausalito Police Department.
Additionally, we perform Vacation House Checks for Sausalito residents at no charge.
About Vacation House ChecksTo request a vacation house check you will need to do one of the following:
• Fill out the online form and submit it electronically
• Call the Sausalito Police Department at (415) 289-4170 and provide all necessary information over the phone, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. only
• Download and complete a paper copy of the vacation house check form and submit it:
In-person to the Sausalito Police Department Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
